With it’s vivid lyrical foreground, swelling melodies and prismatic harmonies, “Where are the Arms” is both sophisticated and welcoming. And while the intricate chamber arrangements on songs like “Charming Disease” and “Barn Song” betray his gifts as an orchestrator, the album never loses sight of it’s primary focus on songcraft with fierce attention throughout given to melody and storytelling.
