Chester Watson’s music has never been confined to the terrestrial plane or strictly material realities. His latest album, Psychic Warfare Department, is a deep dive into the spiritual highs and lows of modern existence. He can float between the meditative drone of “spellcaster” and the hedonistic excess of “fashion week” as easily as he levitates over his self-produced beats. In an underground scene where virality is the highest virtue, Watson crafts his own ethics of atmosphere and precision.
