James Rivers’ “Olé” is a dynamic exploration of Latin-infused jazz. With it’s tight rhythm section, lush horn arrangements, and Rivers’ virtuosic saxophone playing, the album seamlessly blends the sounds of traditional Latin music with the improvisational spirit of jazz. From the lively opener “Olé Pt. I” to the slow and funky “Smokey the Funky Soprano,” each track highlights Rivers’ remarkable musicianship and his ability to create an interplay between himself and his bandmates. The saxophone is the centerpiece of the album, with Rivers bringing a fresh and innovative approach to the instrument by incorporating elements of bebop, funk, and R&B, making each song on the album a unique and exciting musical journey.
