Lançado quando Randy Crawford tinha 43 anos, Naked and True surgiu 16 anos após a cantora ter alcançado sua maior visibilidade com o hit de 1979 dos Crusaders, “Street Life”. Dominado por covers, Naked and True encontra a cantora imprimindo sua marca reconhecível em sucessos de R&B que vão de “I’ll Be Around” dos Spinners, “The Glow of Love” da Change e “Give Me the Night” de George Benson a “Forget Me Nots” de Patrice Rushen e “Holding Back the Years” do Simply Red.
