Unofficially the third entry in our Good God!series of ecstatic worship, Born Again Funkpicks up where A Gospel Funk Hymnal leavesoff. Yes, the prodigal sons of Thomas Dorseyarrived in there multitudes, only some of themtoting fuzzboxes and Fender amps. These arethe most devout songs, but done up amid thehot, sweaty, earthy moonshine rhythms downedby any blues singer thumbing his way up northfrom the Mississippi delta. Born Again Funkhones in on wholly modern vulgarity broughtto a joyful strain of American composition, and performers unafraid of expressing theirdevotion with both inspiration and invention. They were acolytes faithful to a spirit, butnever to an ordained sound.
